Antminer S19 Pro 110T evaluation
At the end of February 2020, Bitmain released the Antminer S19 Pro with a rated hash rate of 110T±3% and wall power consumption of 3250W±5%. As of the end of May, the 19 series of miners have been delivered to various mines one after another. After the miners have been running stably for a while, measure the actual operation of the S19 Pro miners, and now I will share with you briefly.
1. Local climate and mining farm inlet air temperature (a mining farm in central Inner Mongolia)
According to the online historical weather data, from June to August 2015-2019, the highest temperature records in the region were 32°C, 31°C, 36°C, 31°C, and 31°C each year. The mining farm is located in an industrial park, and the airflow is side-in and top-out. If the maximum ambient temperature in summer is calculated as 34°C, according to the characteristics of the heat source of the mining farm, the maximum temperature of the air entering the workshop in summer should not exceed 37°C. The air temperature behind the water curtain should not exceed 31℃, and the relative humidity should be between 30-80%.
2. Miner introduction
Antminer S19 Pro is an integrated design of chassis power supply. Its bare metal size is 370mm*195.5mm*290mm. It can be placed horizontally or vertically according to the height space of the mining farm shelf; the net weight is 13.2kg.
The miner’s heat dissipation is designed with front and rear double-tube fans. The fan protection net is arranged on the outer surface of the fan to ensure that the operation and maintenance personnel of the mining farm avoid injury caused by accidental contact with the blades and protect the safety of the operation and maintenance personnel; the back of the fan is covered with a grille, this effectively prevents foreign particles from entering the high-speed rotating fan and hitting the hash board.
The voltage of a single fan is 12V, the current is 1.65A, the maximum speed is 6150rpm, and the maximum air volume is 197cfm. According to the change of the series-parallel characteristics of the fans, the parallel fan design on one side of the miner significantly increases the ventilation volume; the series-connection design of the fans on both sides of the miner significantly enhances the resistance of the miner to environmental resistance. The ventilation volume of miners will not fluctuate violently with the change of the mining farm environment.
The miner's internal hash board uses a whole heat sink to dissipate heat. The heat sink is a streamlined design. Although the wind resistance cannot be effectively reduced, this heat sink design effectively increases the thermal diffusion area of the chip. The heat can be evenly and quickly transferred to the heat sink and taken away by the wind in time.
3. Measured data of miner operation
The on-site personnel selected miners at a particular position on the shelf for testing and obtained the following data.
Antminer S19 Pro air inlet temperature is 23.1°C, relative humidity is 70%, air outlet temperature is 38.8°C; air outlet humidity is 32%, the average air volume is 370cfm; power outlet temperature is 28.0°C. The overall power consumption of the Antminer S19 Pro is 3320W, and the miner control page shows that the average hash rate is 111.8 TH/s, so the power consumption ratio of the Antminer S19 is 29.69 W/T.

The effective hash rate of the S19 Pro on the mining pool side is also amazing. The backstage of ViaBTC shows that the average effective hash rate is about 111Th/s. After connecting to the "Firepower Pool" and enabling the "Hourly Exchange" function, the highest income increase can reach 23.99% compared with the traditional PPS+ model. The figure below shows the income obtained by different accounts through ViaBTC.
Influence of air volume and air temperature change on miners' operation
According to relevant statistics, 45% of electronic product damage is due to excessive temperature. The high-temperature problem in the mining farm is mainly caused by insufficient ventilation, which causes the temperature of the miner's air outlet to rise. To obtain the operating status of the miner in different ventilation environments, the on-site personnel observe the change of the miner's hash rate by changing the airflow through the miner. The results obtained are as follows.
As shown in the figure, when the miner's air inlet temperature is fixed at 31°C, and the miner's air volume is reduced from 370cfm to 190cfm, the miner's hash rate does not fluctuate significantly and remains at around 111.4TH/s. Continue to reduce the air volume. Miner hash rate is starting to show instability. Further, reduce the ventilation volume of the miners to 170cfm, and the miners are protected from high temperatures. Therefore, for this mining farm, the actual ventilation volume of each Antminer S19 Pro should not be less than 190cfm.
Under the corresponding different air volumes, the temperature environment of operating miners is also different. As the most typical data indicator, the relationship between the air temperature of the miner's air outlet and the hash rate is shown in the figure below. As can be seen from the figure, the air temperature of the miner's air outlet should not exceed 61 ℃ in actual operation.
The influence of the temperature fluctuation degree of the air outlet on the operation of the miners
In addition to the air temperature limit at the air outlet that the miner can bear, the fluctuation degree of the ambient temperature change also influences the miner's operation. Therefore, the on-site personnel increased the miner's air inlet temperature from 22°C to 40°C at different times to observe the miner's hash rate change and finally obtained the following data.
It can be seen from the curve that the fluctuation of the miner's inlet air temperature varies from 0 to 3.6°C/s, and the miner's hash rate changes slightly, which means that in the summer environment, the miner's hash rate is hardly affected by the temperature environment change.
The influence of environmental humidity changes on the operation of miners
The on-site personnel observed the miner's hash rate change by controlling the miner's air inlet humidity and finally obtained the change curve of the miner's hash rate with the humidity of the miner's air inlet.
It can be seen from the curve that when the relative humidity of the miner's air intake is in the range of 30%-90%, the operating hash rate is 111.7-111.8TH/s, which is the regular operating hash rate. This shows that the change of the relative humidity of the workshop in a short time has little effect on the operation of the miners.
Other
Miners in different positions of the mining farm have significant differences in the airflow field environment. As a result, the air volume obtained by the miners is quite different, which directly affects the temperature of the air outlet of the miners. To ensure that the miners' air outlet temperature remains within an appropriate range, the mining farm should calculate the airflow field at each miner's location during the design process and reduce the temperature of the miners' summer intake air by designing a water curtain or other equipment. During operation, the distance between miners and the water curtain should be greater than 2 meters to prevent water droplets from splashing into the miners; the workshop should be kept clean, and the number of particles with a diameter of not less than 0.5 μm in the workshop environment should be ≤32.5 million particles/m3.
The ventilation layout is reasonable for the mining farm used in this miner evaluation experiment, and the inlet air temperature is low. It is calculated that the hot outlet air of the miners does not exceed 47°C in summer. Therefore, the operating miners have a good heat dissipation environment, and the relative humidity and dust particle concentration are maintained within the appropriate range.
